Guide to BMW Motorrad Brake Master Cylinders

The brake master cylinder on your BMW motorcycle, whether it's the one up front on the one in the rear, works basically the same as that in a car or truck. When the brake is pressed, brake pistons travel its bore, pressurizing brake fluid and pushing it through the brake hoses and lines. The brake rotors (discs) and brake calipers then clamp together (with brake pads between them), and the resistance that slows and stops your bike is created.

How to Spot A Faulty Brake Master Cylinder

If you're having trouble braking, though, it can be hard to tell what's causing problems -- whether it's this rotor, that caliper, shallow tire treads, a worn-out pad, or the brake cylinder itself. Luckily, certain symptoms can give you more information. Perhaps the most obvious are brake warnings on your instrumentation, taking longer to slow down and stop, and grinding noises when you brake: the last is a worst-case scenario indicating likely disc warp and damage from excessive pad wear.

Others range from shuddering and sideways drift during braking to unusual noises when slowing and stopping. Your brake may even feel overly soft or abnormally low when you step on it, not to mention like it has less of a grip than usual.

To tell which parts need changing, do a careful and complete brake inspection. Check your brake itself, the fluid, the lines and hoses, and the assemblies, for instance. If its results indicate the need for, say, a rebuild, and you're looking for replacement parts, you've come to the right parts store. We carry what your BMW motorcycle needs, even if it's just a repair kit to bring it back up to spec. Best of all, you can buy it right here.
